I'm Mark Krieger, I've lived in Highland Park since 1977. I am running this November for a three year term on the Highland Park Board of Education.
I first served on the Highland Park Board of Education for three terms in the late 1980s and early 1990s. I was interviewed and selected in early 2016 by the Board to fill an open seat for the remainder of that year, and won my fifth term on the Board in the November 2016 election.
My leadership as Finance Committee Chair has helped the Board build budgets each year which keep tax rate increases under control, class sizes small, and necessary financial controls in place. In my role as Finance Chair, I spearheaded the new District program to provide personal Chromebooks to all Middle and High School students during their time in our schools. This new program will save the taxpayers money, and will also provide excellent modern equipment to all of our Middle and High School students, an important education and equity issue for the Board.
In my role as Chair of the Negotiating Committee, I've worked with our attorneys, the Board, and with our staff and administration unions (HPEA and HPAA) to settle problems and negotiate new contracts.
I bring experience and energy to the Board. I hope you'll vote for me -- and for my dedicated colleagues Darcie and Chris too – and I pledge to work with all my energy to support the goals of the Board in Highland Park's Strategic Plan – the academic, social, emotional, and mental wellness of every student, equity in their educational opportunity, and consistent and effective instruction.
