Mark Krieger and his wife Nora have lived in the same house they bought when they moved to Highland Park in 1977. They love living in Highland Park, and the schools have played a key part in their life. Their two children both spent all of their school years in the Highland Park schools and they got a wonderful education.
In the late 1980's, when the schools were going through difficult changes, Mark was elected to the Board of Education, where he served for three terms. During those years, he was Vice President, Chair of the Finance Committee and a member of the Board's Negotiating Committee. His technology, finance, and business experience was essential to the success of the schools in both finance and negotiations.
In January 2016, when Mark learned that the Board would have two open seats from February to December 2016, he applied to the Board for one of the open seats. Mark was selected to fill one of the open seats at the February Board meeting, and began his fourth term as a Board member. Soon after, he was appointed the Chair of the Finance Committee.
In his private life, Mark worked at IBM, CERN, several universities, and then co-founded software companies starting in the late 1970s. He was CEO and chief technologist at his own software company from 1981 to 2006 and he's been semi-retired since 2009.
Mark believes in public service, and he also believes that the highest form of public service is done by the Board of Education. The Board can ensure that our public schools provide equal access to opportunity for every child and provide our children with excellent public educations.
